What stage of life am I in right now?

This question appears when it feels like you’re “not where you should be.” In reality, you’re often just in a different phase than you expected.

We’re used to thinking in age. But life works in phases.

You can:

  • at 25 be in a stabilization stage
  • at 40 be in a search phase
  • at 30 be in transition

And that’s normal.

Main phases

Accumulation phase

You learn, try, take everything. It’s normal to be scattered and experiment a lot.

Stabilization phase

You want support, predictability, a system. A need for rhythm and rules appears.

Reassessment phase

Old goals no longer motivate. What used to give drive suddenly stops working.

Transition phase

The new isn’t clear yet, the old is no longer yours. It’s a time to give yourself space.

The mistake is getting stuck in a phase

When you try to live not in your phase:

  • accumulate when you need to let go
  • stabilize when you need to try
  • move when you need to pause

tension appears.

How to identify your phase

Ask:

  • what pulls me more right now: stability or change?
  • what drains me the most?
  • what am I trying to hold onto even though it no longer works?

Understanding the phase removes half the inner conflict. And allows you to choose a step that matches your pace.
