What is self-reflection (and what it isn’t)
Self-reflection is a short pause to honestly notice what’s happening in your head and body. It’s needed not for deep analysis, but for clarity: “where am I now” and “where is it logical to move next.”
Self-reflection is often confused with:
- self-digging
- endless thoughts
- searching for “why I’m like this”
That’s not it.
Self-reflection is
- observation without judgment
- recording facts and reactions
- searching for the next step
- clarifying intentions without the pressure to “be better”
What it isn’t
- self-criticism
- analysis of the past without a way out
- an attempt to find the “root of all problems”
When it works
- when there is structure
- when there is a time limit
- when there is a focus of the day
Without this, reflection turns into noise.
Self-reflection is a skill. And it trains like a muscle of attention.
